With Pennsylvania colleges producing fewer teachers than ever before, a state House panel spent several hours on Wednesday discussing how to change that trend. The House Education Committee heard from education experts about the causes of the state's teacher shortage and potential strategies to address them as were documented in a new study out of Penn State Center for Education Evaluation and Policy Analysis. That analysis by Penn State associate professor Ed Fuller found the number of new teachers graduating from college in 2021-22, or 4,220, was the lowest since that kind of data was available in Pennsylvania, a state that a couple of decades ago was a leading exporter of teachers.
